True Tube
by David Haworth - Monday, 23 June 2008, 09:48 pm

true tube logoTrueTube is a free, web-based resource which uses real-life stories and issues to encourage teenagers to explore and debate the world of morality, ethics, politics and religion. TrueTube brings to life the subjects at the heart of Secondary Education using short-form web-based video. The site encourages teenagers to find their voice as they explore their own value systems and those of their peers around the corner and across the world.

Teachers can use the site as a catalyst to encourage classroom discussion and as a tool to aid learning through audio-visual media. We also offer a range of teaching resource packs which include lesson plans and activities which fit with the QCA2007 curriculum.

Teachers are encouraged to use the site to inspire students to make films of their own. To help with this TrueTube offers an online Edit Suite where teachers can allow students to work remotely and create films to be uploaded to the site and which can be used as coursework.

National Schools Regatta
by David Haworth - Tuesday, 3 June 2008, 10:42 am

Abingdon sent ten crews to Nottingham to race at the National Schools Regatta. On Friday 23rd June the J14’s raced with the C crew coming 13th out of 18 B Crews. The B Crew progressed to the final and in a dramatic race took the bronze medal. The A crew narrowly lost out on a place in the A final but showed there is strength throughout the age group which bodes well for future years.

Rowing

On Saturday unfortunately no other crews got the opportunity to show what they were capable of with the entire event being called off after high winds hampered some early races sinking four crews. Some conciliation will come from a rerun planned for the 7th June in the form of an Eton College Regatta at Dorney Lake but unfortunately logistics will mean not all events are run and not all competitors will be able to attend due to exams. Abingdon hopes to send five crews which will include the 1st Eight, 2nd Eight, J16 A, J15 A and J15 B Eight.
Congratulations goes to Max Gander who has been selected to cox the Great Britain coxed four at the Junior World Championships in Austria in July. Other school oarsmen will have their opportunity to qualify for seats at the championships at the final round of trials after the Henley Royal Regatta.
