LOWER SIXTH

BRITISH FOREIGN POLICY 1793-1841.

Military Report - Confidential
Subject: State of War effort
To: King George III
Date: December 1800.

Written assignment 2:
Military Report: 1800.

This should act as a helpful revision exercise.

Imagine it is the end of 1800.

You have to write a military report addressed to the King (George III) explaining the progress of the war with France thus far.

The aim is to give an analytical (thematic) overview of events, paying particular attention to the lessons that have been learnt, the problems highlighted, key future concerns etc.

You might include the following points:
brief reference to some of the important battles which have taken place / successes and failures and the lessons being learnt about military and naval strategy / problems being encountered.
an evaluation of the army and navy (quality, supply of, commanders etc)
some comments about finance
some comments about the coalitions (problems, strengths etc)

Include any other information you think might be informative but on no account simply tell the story of the war thus far. You must approach the material thematically and analytically.

Think about how you are going to structure your report.
You need to impart clear points (arguments/analytical comments) to the king but he will also require detail (evidence/examples) not just vague waffle.
